Every grooming wipe ends up in your cat's mouth. Not maybe — always. Cats groom off anything you apply within minutes of you applying it.
So in early 2024 we sent our formula to SGS Shanghai for acute oral toxicity testing under OECD 420, the international standard method. Not an ingredient review, not a supplier's assurance — a study on the actual liquid squeezed from a production pack.
The result: no toxic effects and no mortality at the 2.0 g/kg limit dose, with normal weight gain and clean pathology across the full 14-day observation period. The formula classified as GHS Category 5 / Unclassified — the lowest hazard band on the scale.

Being straight about scope: that's an ingestion study, not a skin study, and we don't dress it up as one.
We left the essential oils out on purpose
Cats are not small dogs. Their livers lack much of the glucuronidation capacity that dogs and humans rely on to clear the aromatic compounds in essential oils, which is why so many oils that are unremarkable for a dog are a genuine problem for a cat.
Our dog wipes contain a trace of real lavender oil. This formula contains none. No lavender, no tea tree, no citrus, no “natural fragrance” doing the same job under a different name. We built a separate formula rather than sell you the dog version with a cat on the label.
Five ingredients. Water, one mild cleanser, catnip, green tea, and a named preservative at a published percentage. That is the entire list — and on a cat page, a short list is itself the safety argument. Every ingredient we don't have is one fewer thing you have to research at 11pm.
Real catnip, and an honest note about it
There's actual Nepeta cataria extract in these wipes, not a catnip-scented fragrance. For most cats it turns a wipe-down from a wrestling match into something they lean into.
Here's the part most brands leave out: somewhere between 30 and 50 percent of cats don't respond to catnip at all. The response is genetic — they either have it or they don't — and kittens generally don't develop it until three to six months old.
So if your cat shrugs at these, nothing is wrong with the wipes or your cat. You've got one of the non-responders, and the wipe still cleans exactly as well. Our refund policy covers it either way.

Why we chose this preservative — and why we tell you the number

Every wet wipe needs a preservative. A pack of water-based wipes you open fifty times over a month will grow mold and bacteria without one, and that is the real risk to your pet — not the preservative.
The easy marketing move is a botanical “natural preservative system.” We looked hard at that route and passed. Plant-derived preservatives and botanical fragrance actives are among the most common causes of contact allergy in topical products, which is why the fragrance industry runs dedicated repeat-insult patch testing programs on them.
Natural and non-irritating are not the same word.
So we use benzalkonium chloride at 0.08%. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review has assessed benzalkonium chloride as safe in personal-care products at concentrations up to 0.1%, and 0.08% sits inside both that limit and the standard range used across the wet-wipe industry. That's the number. We'd rather you have it than a reassurance.
It is there to keep the wipes fresh in the pack, and nothing else. These are grooming wipes, not a sanitizer, and we make no germ-killing claims for your pet.
We would rather name a well-studied preservative, publish the exact concentration, and explain the trade-off than hand you a longer, prettier list with nothing behind it.
How to use them
Short sessions beat thorough ones. A cat who tolerates the routine is worth more than a perfectly clean cat who now hides from you.

Let them smell it first
Open the pack and let your cat investigate. The catnip does most of the persuading from here — assuming yours is one of the responders.

Work with the coat, not against it
Wipe in the direction the fur lies. Back, sides, and the base of the tail are usually accepted first.

Paws and litter dust last
Feet are the least popular part. Save them for when your cat has already decided this is fine.

Ending the session while it's still going well is what makes the next one easy. No rinsing needed either way.
Questions people actually ask
Do they contain essential oils?
No. Not one. Cats can't clear many essential-oil compounds the way dogs can, so this formula has none — no lavender, no tea tree, no “natural fragrance.” Our dog wipes do contain a trace of lavender oil. These are a different formula, not the same wipe with different packaging.
My cat ignored the catnip. Is the pack defective?
Almost certainly not. Roughly a third to half of all cats have no catnip response at all — it's genetic — and kittens under three to six months usually haven't developed it yet. The wipe cleans identically either way, and if you're unhappy, email us for a full refund with nothing to ship back.
What happens when my cat licks it off?

Do I need to rinse afterwards?
No. It's a neutral pH 7.0 formula with one mild cleanser and no soap, so there's nothing to rinse out and no sticky residue left behind.
Can I use these on a kitten?
The formula is the same whatever the age, but very young kittens are best left to their mother and your vet. If your kitten is under twelve weeks or unwell, ask your vet first.
Will these help with dander or allergies?
We won't claim that. Wiping removes surface debris, and that's as far as we'll go. If someone in your home reacts to cats, that's a conversation for a doctor, not a product page.
Can I use the dog wipes on my cat instead?
We'd rather you didn't. The dog formula contains a trace of lavender oil, and this one deliberately contains no essential oils at all. That's the whole reason two formulas exist.
